If you are having issues with your braces, don’t worry, we can help! Generally speaking, wearing braces is problem-free and simply a matter of straightening your pearly whites. But sometimes an issue might crop up with your braces, so knowing what to do can make you more comfortable.
Should something arise, please let our office know so that we can determine if you need to come in sooner or if you can wait until your next scheduled appointment with us. While you are waiting to be seen, there are things you can do to ensure a comfortable time:
1-One of your coil springs comes off. Please keep the coil and let us know it has come off. We will determine if you need to come in before your next appointment, otherwise, the coil may be put back on during your next scheduled visit.
2-One of the archwires comes out of a bracket. You can try inserting the wire back into the tube using tweezers if an archwire accidentally comes out of a bracket. You can also place wax on the wire to reduce contact with your the soft tissue in your mouth.
3-One of your brackets come loose. You can place wax over the bracket if a bracket comes loose. However, if the bracket actually falls off, please put it in a safe place and bring it in at your next scheduled appointment.
4-One of your wires pop out and is poking you. You can flatten the wire against the tooth with a pencil eraser or a Q-tip if a wire pops out and you can feel it poking your oral tissue in the mouth. You can also press orthodontic wax over the wire so that it doesn’t rub or irritate you.
